The Secretariat of the Asian Mayors Forum welcomed Christine Wiegand, United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Islamic Republic of Iran on July 29.
During the discussion, Hamidreza Gholamzadeh, Secretary General of the Forum, outlined the establishment, mission, and key areas of activity of the Asian Mayors Forum. He described stronger engagement with the United Nations as a valuable opportunity to advance urban cooperation across Asia.
He further called for more structured connections between UN entities, particularly UNESCO and UNICEF, and the Forum’s specialized committees, with the aim of developing joint initiatives and making better use of their shared capacities.
Christine Wiegand identified networking, knowledge and experience exchange, and awareness-raising as key areas of cooperation, while highlighting the potential of non-financial partnerships in shaping future collaboration.
