The ninth issue of the Asian Mayors Forum Activity Report highlights the Forum’s key activities and international engagements from January to March 2025.
During this period, AMF continued to strengthen international and intercity cooperation through meetings with diplomatic representatives and city leaders. The Forum engaged with the ambassadors of Pakistan and Armenia, explored opportunities to expand cooperation between Iranian and Pakistani cities, and highlighted the potential of the Tehran–Yerevan twinning relationship for further intercity collaboration. AMF also met with the Mayor of Baghdad to discuss stronger participation in Forum activities and opportunities for joint programs.
The report also highlights AMF’s cultural diplomacy and environmental initiatives. The Forum co-organized the “Harmony beyond Borders” cultural night celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Manila, while also participating in cultural events and commemorations. The 3rd Diplomatic Peace and Friendship Tree Planting Ceremony brought together 41 diplomatic delegations and international organizations, combining environmental action with a message of peace and friendship.
Urban resilience and crisis management were another focus of the quarter. AMF hosted a specialized online meeting on lessons learned from the recent Los Angeles fires, bringing together experts from municipal fire departments, academia, and international urban contexts to discuss prevention, risk assessment, and crisis management strategies.
This issue further covers AMF’s initiatives in youth empowerment, women’s participation, education, and knowledge exchange. An Iranian participant nominated by AMF was recognized as Young Researcher of the Year at the BRICS and SCO Young Leaders Award in Kazan. The Forum also continued its internship and capacity-building programs through team-building training, protocol education, and the “City Studies” series focusing on Istanbul and Bangkok.
The report also presents the announcement of AMF’s 2025 Asian Capitals, recognizing Tabriz and Antalya as joint Environmental Capitals, Kermanshah as the Capital of Culture, and Isfahan as the Tourism Capital. The designations aim to highlight urban achievements and encourage greater cooperation among Asian cities in culture, environment, and tourism.
