Cemil Tugay, born in 1967, is a Turkish medical surgeon and politician who serves as the 26th Mayor of Izmir City.
Tugay was elected for this position in 2024. He was previously served as the mayor of İzmir's Karşıyaka district.
Izmir is the third most populous city in Turkey and the capital of İzmir Province.
The city is one of the country’s largest ports, situated on the Aegean coast, accounting for one of the oldest cities of the Mediterranean region, with settlements dating back to the Neolithic Era and an urban history of more than three millennia.
Izmir is the second industrial city of Turkey after Istanbul, producing foods, cement, textiles and has petrochemical and engineering works.
It has a large share of the country’s education institutes, nestling several universities.
