Mayor: Rahym Gandymov

Rahym Gandymov has a degree in Engineering and Construction from the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of the Turkmen Polytechnic Institute. He has previously served as the Minister of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan. Since July 2021, he has been serving as the Mayor of Ashgabat.

Ashgabat is the capital and the largest city of Turkmenistan,

It was founded in 1881 as a Russian military fort and took the name of the nearby Turkmen settlement of Askhabad.

Ashgabat today serves as the administrative, industrial, transportation, and cultural center of Turkmenistan.

The city’s economy is mainly driven by cotton textiles and metal working.
