Mayor: Kang Gi-jung
Kang Gi-jung (born in 1964) is the Mayor of Gwangju, elected on 2022.
He first served as a National Assembly member in 2004. Prior to becoming mayor, he served as the chief of political affairs during former president Moon Jae-in’s administration.
Gwangju is South Korea’s sixth-largest metropolis, located in southwestern part of the country.
As an ancient city, Gwangju has been a center of trade and of local administration for centuries and is now a consumer and manufacturing center for the southwestern region of the country thanks to its focal location in transportation.
Gwangju is also a center for culture and art, hosting many events and festivals anually.
