According to the Statute adopted at the Istanbul Summit (2011) and its subsequent amendments at the Gaziantep Summit (2018), the Asian Mayors Forum), is an international non-governmental and non-profit organization headquartered in Tehran. Based on the Statute of the AMF, the governance structure of the Forum includes the following elements:
General Assembly: It is the highest body in the Asian Mayors Forum and is comprised of all members of the AMF. The General Assembly is responsible for overall policy-making and for drawing the direction of the movement and oversight of the Forum.
Executive Board: It is the principal decision-making body in AMF that is responsible for ensuring that the decisions made by the General Assembly are implemented.
Secretary General: The legal representative and head of the permanent secretariat who is responsible for managing the administrative and financial affairs of the Forum. He/She is in charge of directing the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly and the Executive Board and is accountable to the Executive Board.
Financial Committee: Comprising five full members who are introduced by the Treasurer and approved by the Executive Board. The Treasurer plays the role of Secretary of this Committee.
Treasurer: Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the strategy and financial issues of the Forum. The Treasurer shall be elected on the recommendation of the Secretary General, with the approval of the Executive Board and endorsement of the General Assembly. A committee called the “Financial Inspectorate”, consisting of five full members of the Forum, is nominated by the Treasurer and approved by the Executive Board. The Treasurer plays the role of Secretary of this Committee.
