The 6th General Assembly of Asian Mayors Forum kicked off in Tajik capital, Dushanbe, on Wednesday, March 9.
The three-day event was inaugurated by speeches from high-ranking municipal officials of Asian cities, including mayor of Dushanbe, Mr. Rustam Emomali, mayor of Tehran, Mr. Alireza Zakani, and Mayor of Tashkent, Jahongir Ortiqhojaev. The opening ceremony also included an speech by deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Mr. Usmonzoda Usmonali, as well as a video message from Ms. Fatma Şahin, the mayor of Turkish city of Gaziantep and former president of AMF.
The event also honored the former AMF Secretary General Mr. Goshtasb Mozafari and Ms. Fatma Şahin for their efforts in the organization.
Speeches from deputy of Qatar’s Doha, Mr. Mahmoud Mansoor Abdulla, as well as mayors of several Iranian cities including Mashhad, Kerman, and Qazvin also were made during the meeting.
The 6th AMF General Assembly had also several international organizations in attendance virtually , including WeGo and Metropolis and UCLG-MEWA with video messages from their secretary generals. Officials from cities of Ankara, Antalya, Gaziantep Bangkok, Kazan, Semnan, Urmia, Shiraz, and Zahedan also attended the meeting online.
The event was welcomed by Tajikistan, with Dushanbe fully prepared for the conference. the whole ceremony was broadcast from Tajikistan national television.
